Superman is DC’s most recognized superhero, other than Batman but the latest iteration of Superman being portrayed in the DCEU has been polarizing. Warner Bros. made Superman the butt of all jokes with all that mustache CGI in Justice League. Even any plans that WB had for a Man of Steel sequel were thwarted. And last year, Henry Cavill reportedly leaving the iconic character made headlines but this was confirmed to be just a rumor.
Soon after those reports, fans addressed how they would miss Cavil as the Man of Steel and then got to work who could take the mantle of Superman. One of the most popular fan casts was Black Panther actor, Michael B. Jordan. Some rumors even spread that he was being considered to replace Cavil. And now, Jordan himself has given out his word on those rumors and revealed if he would like to play Superman.
Upon being asked if he would like to play Superman, he replied, “it’s tough. I hate being a businessman and understanding both sides of the situation. There is a huge upside to it, but being under that microscope, being picked apart and compared to so many different versions of Superman… I would rather do something original. I’ll be Calvin Ellis.”
He then went on to explain more about this “Calvin Ellis”. He told that this was also Superman but from a different Earth.
Comic fans would know this is the Superman from Earth-23. And he’s black. Actually, Jordan went on to share that this Superman being black is the reason he would like to portray him on-screen as the “comic book purists” could get used to a black Superman if the comic counterpart is also black. His exact words – “there’s another version of Superman in another dimension that is black already in the comic books. That exists. I think the comic book purists would accept that more than me being Clark Kent from Kansas.”
