It was the observation prowess of a particular fan that introduced to the world the idea that Doctor Strange was employing the powers of the Time Stone while he was handing it over to Thanos in exchange for Tony’s life. Another interesting observation in this scene was the brief suspicious look Thanos passed onto Doctor Strange after he received the Stone. He must have of course seen that the Stone was glowing and we know that the Infinity Stones glow when they’re being used.

This led the fan faction to suspect if Doctor Strange had trapped Thanos or, as some fan theories suggest, the whole of the universe on a time loop. And now, thanks to another desperate fan, we now have further proof that gives traction to this theory.
This fan has dug up a past interview related to Doctor Strange. This interview was held in November 2016 by The Hollywood Reporter. The guest was the screenwriter of Doctor Strange movie, Jon Spainhts. He revealed on the show that the final fight scene where Strange traps Dormammu in a time loop was actually the idea from none other than Kevin Feige himself.
He stated, “We were trying to figure out how that final battle could go, and Kevin was focused on his long play with the Eye of Agamotto and the role it’s going to play in his grand design in the cinematic universe – very focused on Strange’s manipulation of time. It was Kevin Feige in the room who said, ‘Could he trap him in time?’ and that led me to write the sequence that you see.”
