“I shouldn’t be alive unless it was for a reason.” This dialogue is from the movie that commenced the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And possibly this ‘”reason” would be resolved out in the upcoming Avengers Endgame.
The trailer informed us of how the Avengers are coping with the immense loss they incurred at the end of Infinity War. Tony is out there in space and not one soul on Earth would know about him. To them, he’s already dead. But they’re all gonna be surprised to learn that Ironman is yet to have the fight of his life with The Mad Titan.
The Reddit user ‘hypedup80’ explains why Tony’s obvious rescue should take off the screen. The theorist first, from the trailer, predicts how the first 30 minutes of the movie would roll out. Then he goes on to explain why Tony should be rescued off-screen.
His theory goes, “Stark was left stranded on Titan. In the trailer we see him stranded on Benatar. And that’s where I believe we will leave him once the title card shows up. For all of this to have the desired impact on the viewer they need to make him stay there for all long as possible. Maybe even hint at him dying there. That way it means something. Having him rescued right at the start of the movie will remove all the emotional impact of the scene”
How I think the trailer footage fits in the first 30min of the movie. And why we shouldn't see Tony get rescued. from r/marvelstudiosRelated - Dr. Strange will turn Evil in the sequel, Director's tweet teases
The theory continues, “And the reason I’m saying his rescue would be off-camera is only that we should see his return to earth from the remaining Avengers’ perspective. We shouldn’t know he got rescued before they do because that would take away their emotional reaction. This was we will learn he is alive when they do, through their eyes. That will add to the scene.”
I wonder how Captain America would react on seeing Tony alive. I wonder if he would repeat his “Son of a gun” dialogue from the first Avengers movie.
Keeping Tony off the screen for quite some time would be in line to what Marvel has said. The ratio of screen presence between Tony and Cap is supposed to be opposite to what it was in Infinity War. Also, screenwriters have revealed that Captain America and Natasha are to have a “harder role” in Avengers Endgame. So, we shouldn’t expect to see much of Tony in the first 30 minutes of the movie.
