The action scenes in Infinity War were each breathtaking. Doctor Strange saw the future and knew the exact things he had to do to defeat Thanos. So, Starlord comes up with a very good plan and the team manages to subdue the Titan with his Infinity Gauntlet. It takes the whole team to take him done. But right when the most crucial thing was happening, Starlord didn’t care to take note of the position they were in and what the stakes were. He dismantled his own plan.
Then we saw Thanos regaining the ground and Doctor Strange employed a number of tricks to remove the Gauntlet from Thanos’ hand. In the Art of the Avengers: Infinity War, it has now been revealed that Doctor Strange was initially considered to have subdued the Titan by himself. He even managed to send him into another dimension. Doctor Strange is a very powerful sorcerer. He can uplift an immense amount of energy from the other dimensions. Have a look below at the concept art.
The second photo shows Doctor Strange casting a spell on Thanos’ mind. But maybe the reason they dropped this is because this looked too similar to what Mantis did to the Titan. Anyway, Strange was never going to win against Thanos because the future in which the Avengers win didn’t call for a win at this time. After fighting Strange, Thanos had Tony to fight. And Tony nearly managed to cut off Thanos’ arm. It was a brief shot, so many couldn’t notice Tony trying to cut Thanos’ arm. Doctor Strange finally surrendered the Time Stone to Thanos in exchange for Tony’s life. Regarding his role in Avengers 4, Benedict Cumberbatch said, “I’m dust, baby.”
