We learned in Thor: Ragnarok that the Infinity Gauntlet housed by Odin’s vault was a fake. We witnessed Hela pushing it aside and deeming it ‘Fake’. This begs the question, Why would Odin keep a fake gauntlet in his vault?
This theory by the Reddit user ‘bubonis’ attempts to answer this question with an in-depth explanation of Odin’s relation with the Infinity Stones. This theory claims that Odin learned about the existence of Infinity Stones from his father, Bor. When Odin became King, he voyaged across the realms to collect all the Stones. Joining him was his firstborn, Hela. Amidst his quest, he commissioned Nidavellir to forge a device capable of housing all the infinity stones. and allowing him to use all the stones at his will. The Dwarfs made a prototype filled with fake stones to show Odin as a test fit.
After this, Odin learned about the whereabouts of the Soul Stone. And also found out the only way he could get it. But he couldn’t sacrifice his loved daughter, Hela, to get the stone. Odin stopped his conquering spree and took to being a King and looking after all the realms. Hela, however, couldn’t see beyond the powers of the Infinity Stones. Because of this difference of opinion, she and Odin fought over this and Odin then banished her to Hell.
Odin took the fake gauntlet and placed it in his vault. It would serve as a reminder of what he had done and what he had lost. He overruled his initial order to the dwarfs of Nidavellir.
This theory elaborately explains Odin’s journey from a conqueror to a just King. What are your thoughts on this theory?
